The couriers are on a very tight schedule to make up to a hundred stops per day. They're instructed to ring the doorbell or knock when dropping off the package so that you're alerted to go and retrieve it. It's done so that some unscrupulous neighbor or passer-by doesn't walk off with it.<br /><br />FedEX and UPS couriers have to make x number of stops per hour to maintain their numbers for the day.<br /><br />You can always ask the guy to stop ringing the bell, they usually work with you on these things.
